How Hammersmith & Fulham Council uses Yokeru respond to national emergencies

Council rapidly upscaled their call capacity to make regular direct contact with more than 9,000 shielded individuals.

AI calls have enabled the council's staff to identify the unmet needs of residents, many of which are suffering from social isolation and loneliness.

The service makes AI calls to residents with an advanced human-like synthetic voice. The platform shares information about council services and asks a series of questions that could be answered by individuals using the phone touchpad by speaking the answer.

As of July 2020, nearly 1,000 shielded households were identified with unmet needs, and therefore require assistance.

This outcome would not have been possible using a human operator. Every hour of AI calls made by Yokeru would have required 225 hours (32 working days) of continued traditional call centre usage to monitor all 9,000 shielded households.
